Master data management strategies

Before you start with MDM studio, it is important to define how to manage data.
You can use several master data management strategies. MDM studio has these strategies pre-defined:

Central
Decentral
Enterprise

Central master data management strategy

Data integrity and quality can be difficult if data is used in several companies. A good practice is to introduce a master data management company. In this master data management company, you can manage the data, make sure data is correct, and publish it from here to other companies.

Example: You want to manage customers, vendors and customer groups. To do so, a central master data management company is created. This company, as a data owner, maintains, releases and sends the data to the applicable companies

Decentral master data management strategy

During your operations, you can create the data, publish it and share it with other companies. In each company, you can create and manage data as master data and publish it to other companies.

Example: You want to manage customers and the vendors. In this case, company 1 manages the customers and company 2 manages vendors. Company 1 maintains contact with the customers, discusses prices agreements, does the contract management and knows the market. Company 2 does the same for vendors.

products are developed. Each of these companies is the owner of their product information.
The master data is managed by product specialized people.
It is easier to maintain data because of the specialized people.

Enterprise strategy

In a company, several applications can be used for which data exchange is required. Because MDM studio uses Connectivity studio for the data infrastructure, MDM studio can create different data formats for Master records.

Example: With MDM studio you can create an maintain master data in D365 FO and publish this to Microsoft CRM or a PLM application.
